This book was written by a couple of financial journalists, one of them the Guardian's Larry Elliott, and published in 2007, before the financial crisis started.

It critiques the policy inconsistencies of the Blair years and concentrates on seven areas, five of which that could be resolved by concerted, consistent economy vs. social policy decisions, and two - debt and the environment - requiring urgent remedial action. Too late in terms of the financial crisis (the reasons why it could not have been prevented are given in the book). The book ends with a strong transition message.

Recommended.
